Publishing vs. master
Every song has two sides: the composition (publishing — writers and producers) and the recording (master — usually the label). Both earn royalties, and they are split separately.
Royalties & PROs
BMI, ASCAP and SESAC collect performance royalties and pay on a quarterly lag. Statements show gross, recouped advances, and the net each person actually takes home.
